So how much of the 'pickup flying' is strictly day-long trips?
I always see some day trips in open time. Essentially, they come around when Scheduling breaks up a pairing into segments in order to cover it.
How realistic would it be to bid reserve with a "call me last" caveat and then pick up trips on the rest of the unused days of the month?
You can put PASS as your reserve preference, but it's all dictated by seniority. At Southwest, unlike at most airlines, plan on flying your entire reserve block.
If you pick up/assigned a one-day reserve block can the company assign you a trip longer than a day if your schedule is open?
Thanks in advance
No. And as far as I understand it, they can't JA you into your day off either if you're on reserve.
