The retirement here was a joke before and it is a joke now.
Retirement? A 401k is not a retirement unless the company contribution is something well north of 15% (which would of course exceed the limit).
A 401k is the government and corporate america's way to enable you to delude yourself that you'll be OK without your grandfather's defined-benefit pension.
With that said, and while 90% of my retirement planning falls in other realms, you might as well contribute enough to get the match. It's a tax-reduced 7% raise over the long run.
