Found out that some of my information was wrong. My husband works for a company that handles affirmative action regulatory compliance.

So here's how this works. Numbers are pulled in two different ways, by county and by census area. Regardless of how the numbers are pulled in, all they look at are percentages and ratios. This does not mean that if you have an available workforce that is 30% black that you have to have a similar percentage of your workforce be 30% black. That's where the ratios come into play. All we look at is if the company is in danger of discriminatory hiring practices.

The purpose of AA is not to tell you to only choose female minorities (that in itself discriminates against white men). Its purpose is to weed out companies that are doing this. AA says to hire the most qualified applicant FIRST, and then make considerations for their race, gender or protected status (disability and veterans).
