for example, when I start a 5 or 6 day stretch of reserve days, many times they will not use me on the first day. A 5 day trip would have to be in open time or someone call in sick for them to assign me the 5 day trip, and i would have to be the lowest in the 5 day silo. Has happened to me once, but that time I was the only one in the 5 day silo. They could use you for a shorter trip, but they have to go in order of the lowest silo first, so to get to the 5 day silo they would have to be very short on reserves that day or it is a crazy day and they have used everyone.
This was all very easy to see in FLICA on the reserve availability page.
not sure how it is going to be in the new software.
If you commute, plan on being in base on all your reserve days.
there have been pilots that tried to stay home because they had a short commute flight and thought they could figure when it was safe to stay home and then they were called and missed a flight assignment
Yeah.........I commute [emoji17], this should be fun.
