I decided to get out several years ago (took years of apps and job fairs, but finally I got lucky.) It's taken some sacrifice, my schedule is a shadow of it's former glory, but I'm glad I made the jump. There are a bunch of great people still at the company, and I miss working with them.

If anyone still is on the fence, they should get off. I'm not any smarter than anyone else, but I definitely didn't see good things happening once the company decided to start parking planes. I can't think of any regional which has ever survived parking half it's fleet.

If I were still there, I'd get out to anywhere ASAP. Somehow, a lot of the folks I know still tell me about how they are still thinking about getting their apps out. Be aggressive, apply everywhere-don't get discouraged if you get shot down for one job-keep trying. I had an interview somewhere I really wanted to work-and was shot down. I didn't care... I kept after it 100%. Went to more job fairs than I care to recall. Eventually, a great airline called, and I was prepared when I showed up for the interview. Took a ton of prep work, but they like to see that. Don't show up unprepared-find out everything you can about the interview up front. I think most airlines look at interview prep as a good indicator of how well you would prepare for training. Don't show up cold.

Some of it is luck-but in most ways, we make our own luck. Stop thinking about apps, and do something. The end is coming. I don't like it. ASA was a great place to work-with a wonderful bunch of people. It's done. It's over. Once the delta contract ends, it's 100% done. I don't like it, but that's the reality. It's the truth-as I see it.

The time for thinking is long past. Get out now.

That is 100% BS. I don't understand why some people do that. Don't try and talk yourself out of success-and don't discourage others. I can think of exceptions to every single one of those things I've ever heard. I know people who have failed check rides and had real life violations who wound up at the airline of their choice. I was supposed to be "too this and that," but none of it matters once you sit down at the interview. It's all up to you to turn any of that stuff into a positive-and it can be done.
