I also have one year left in my contract with my employer but am just wondering if getting "face time" with the recruiters will help me at all.

In my opinion, if you still have a year left in another commitment, there would be no benefit to attending one. There is no shortage of applicants. If you want to go in order to brush up on your interview skills or something along those lines, that might have value.
