The problem is the 88 led you into a false reality of the automation on the 737 being good....it's not....at all......although it's better than the 88....it would be better if it had the feature the 757 has when you change the speed on vnav path it stays in path vs going to vnav speed like the 737 does.

It's not a 737 problem it's a software problem. Delta has the common VNAV software not geometric. Geometric will do exactly as you say wrt staying in path when changing speed. Delta bought the cheaper version.
