I recommend people who live in a city that Allegiant has a solid permanent base to apply.
I'll agree and disagree with this one. With all due respect, and I'm not trying to argue. Just give my two cents.
I agree- If you live in Base, yes.. QOL will be night and day if you decide to commute. Now let me point out the variables...
IF you are married and have a spouse that just CANNOT manage with you being gone, or doesn't want to move with you, or you do not have the full support, then commuting, allegiant or pretty much ANY airline where you have to commute will not be the best choice for you. Hell the airline industry won't be the best choice if you're not willing to "pay the price" for being junior.
If you're single but still want to commute, then you better not be the type that gets worked up about little things, rumours, or can't handle being junior for a bit. Simple as that.
I Disagree-
Many people came to allegiant, MANY in my class that applied bc they already lived in a base only to find out they couldn't hold that base when hired. Yes yes I know, they will hold it at some point. But until then, many were still bummed about it. So it goes back to, they (you) just have to suck it up and make it work until you can hold the base you want, or move yourself and/or family.
Many people I have flown with including my self commute, and we make it work.
Are we getting as much time off as we want? hell no. Can I commute every time I'm off? NOPE.
BUT, my wife and I try to make it work. If I get enough days off in a row i'll go home, if I don't my wife will fly in and visit me with my kids.
I have my own personal reasons why I'm still commuting. One is that I still have a business back home that I need to figure out what I'm going to do with, secondly I'm waiting for the "dust to settle" meaning for the fleet to transition to mainly airbus so i can decide where I want to move.
Is it easy? nah. But It was my choice to come here, I thought about it long and hard. Now I'm here and I have to stick with it, and not ***** and moan. Like any place I know it's about seniority.
As far as VBD? For me VBD works great because I commute. WHY? because I get a hotel and rental car while on VBD. So it helps me out tremendously to not pay for crashed or transportation.
At the end of the day, chose wisely. Be comfortable BEING UNCOMFORTABLE, bc like any other airline being junior sucks, but you have to man up, gut it out, and not be an entitled person. That's just my opinion and experience.
Good luck to anyone that wants to come here.
So far, i'm content with my decision.
