You are not legally notified unless you do the acknowledgment or phone contact. UAL has to give you legal notification of the change, and remember, ACARS contact is not legal notification.
You would be amazed at the things that appear in schedules, and then disappear, all without proper notifications.
Unfortunately by signing on to CCS you are by the companies definition acknowledging the pairing modification, also you can't get past that acknowledge pairing notification to any other screen without clicking "acknowledge self only" prompt.
