Most other airlines do have the option of dropping trips provided reserve staffing is adequate. The difference in the way that WN uses reserves precludes that from working here.

How much of that reserve utilization construct is inherent to the SW business model, and how much is just management buffoonery? Honest question. If the former, then it's not as if this is not known to applicants when they weigh the pros and cons of working for SW versus a different pax carrier. if it's the latter, then perhaps there's room for potential change in the future.
