It seems that if you had taken it and it was documented on your resume (your score that is), that it would look good if you were right at minimums?

I might be wrong, but it seems like something that would add to your resume if the reviewer saw that you had taken the effort to take an exam that wasn't required. Would it give you an edge perhaps? I've considered it myself as well.
