Can anyone shed some current light on resv life. What it's like, how long will you spend on resv. If you bid resv when you can hold a line will you get used often.

In ORD, reserve is pretty simple. As in, you hardly ever fly. It was busier in Dec and Jan, but so far my experience has been that 30 hours of credit in one month is a busy month. Not uncommon whatsoever to go 2-3 weeks at a time without getting used. Reserve is right at about a year in ORD right now. Overall very low stress. There are a few people who bid short call reserve that could hold lines, I assume under the idea that they will end up being home way more.
Not sure about the other bases - all of my classmates in DEN have held lines for months.
