Why we really take selfies: the 'terrifying' reasons explained - Telegraph
Good article on the real reason why people are obsessed with selfies.
I recently saw a pilot in uniform in the men's restroom in PHX taking a selfie (multiple selfies) while at the sink. He would pose, take a selfie, then examine it for publishability.
The point is he was not capturing a moment in time, or an snapshot of his life at that moment. He was staging, editing, and creating a scene for others to view. Just like advertising.
I have sent images, when someone text me and asks what I'm doing. A pile of laundry, stack of paperwork, etc. Not the best off 8 carefully taken selfies of me next to a laundry basket.
Don't underestimate the low self worth people have of themselves and the dire need to be accepted by others. Even if that means "staging pictures" and over elaborating of events to present that to others.
