Don't get me wrong. I am a yuuuge fan of the electoral college, but other than that, due to most of the Constitutional amendments, we are...in fact...a democracy, purely at the state and local level, heck, even at the federal level.
Ever hear of the 17th Amendment? Yeah. Now all it takes is 51% of your "peers" to elect a Senator to a 6 year term.
Oh I understand... the form of government we are supposed to have vs the form of government we actually have. We are supposed to be a Constitutional Republic with a chamber full of democratically elected representatives.
