And therein lies the problem.
The LUAL pilots seem to have a large sick bank, and they use it too..
The LCAL guys seem to have less, and they don't use it and sometimes give back many many hours..
DYK that returning military pilots that were LUAL accrued sick leave while on Military Leave of Absence while the LCAL did not?!
Good for them, but it just adds to the mix.
The Union Leadership is currently (still) made up of LUAL pilots. LUAL pilots have a nice chunk of change in their sick bank.
Unless the company is willing to give them some sort of monetary compensation for their sick leave bank, no way that the sick leave will change any time soon.... and I don't see the company giving a straight payout when there are still pilots who are retiring with HOURS in their sick bank.
It will take a shift in the Pilot Group status (once PMNH [Post Merger New Hire] outnumber Legacy Pilots) to result in a change.
I would love to see us go to something that Delta has.. but I'm a realist and don't see that happening.
But what about increasing the accrual rate? As stated earlier, a single sick call event can wipe out half a year of SL! A surgery and you can see your sick bank get close to zero!
A solution should be found. Maybe a tiered approach since a drastic change most likely will never happen.
Have an idea but won't post it here as someone will scream 'Negotiating in Public! LOL
