Last month I had reconstructive foot surgery and am still out on medical recovering. Know what my biggest fear was? Not the pain I would soon face, the immobility, or even the small possibility of death like we just saw with Bill Paxton.
My biggest fear was becoming addicted to the pain medication that I knew I was going to be prescribed. I was in constant pain for a week straight yet terrified of these pills. I took them, (I had to,) but even at the height of my pain I did not always take the max allowed amount. That's how scared I was.
And that's how many an addiction gets started.
So referencing the above quote, While I do believe that "Just say no" is a good start, there's more to it that that.
