The best option is to move to base. Maybe if you want to stay close to Ohio move to somewhere within 2 hours drive of EWR or ORD rather than going to IAH, or LAX/SFO etc. Obviously everyone has different things going​ on in their life which means that might not be an option, but if you can I would highly recommend it.

Then if you are on reserve and don't get called you're already at home. Or if you finish a trip you're 2 hours drive from home. No fighting to get a jumpseat in your own car.
