You're supposed to start the APU. Any FO that accepts the "don't start the APU, we have always done it that way" is not following a procedure, created for added fire safety.
Why are they not reminding the Ca, in the correct way, that the procedure has changed and the reason behind it? And if still an issue, we have ProStands to handle issues of pilots blatantly violating a safety procedure, after willfully disregarding a reminder from the SIC, being a professional as you mentioned.
As an FO, you going to sit there and say nothing if the Ca says to not start the APU? Are half the FOs not as outspoken as you are, by allowing a CA to tell them to not start the APU?
Are these the "douche hat wearers" you spoke about before?
My captains, now, dont get a chance to tell me "we never do it this way". As for the FOs, hopefully they read the manuals, and make the right choice. I was just posting a friendly reminder since FOs continue to let themselves be railroaded into doing unsafe things.
Everyone has choices, for example I could belittle others for their lack of thought, or cover up my effups by putting it on others.....

As for the douchebags, that's more a comment on their civility or lack thereof. They could choose to be more introspective, but they really don't care. Good for them. I have learnt something from them too
