It's kind of like paying tax on your social security money. Why not just receive a smaller tax free check or take a tax credit on other income which nets you the money at the end of the day? The government spends 39 cents for every $100 of revenue. Giving you money to later take a portion right back has a cost.
No, what I'm saying is there are places only accessible by boat or air. EAS is the way their air travel is individually economical. Cutting EAS completely without considering individual cases could have the unintended consequence of limiting the ability to produce necessary resources.
The meat axe approach to economics is hardly ever a good idea.
