The irony is that if they did away with the 1500 hour rule, people wouldn't flock back into the profession. The Regionals would still need to pony up to attract people. The cost of training will keep the majority out. I'd say a generation of people have been put off by the publicity of low pay, high expense, and bad QOL.
Maybe. Schools like ATP can get a guy his certs pretty darn fast. Of course thats assuming somebody wants to become a pilot.
As for 1500 hours, I dont discredit cfi doing pattern and maneuver instruction. As many have stated its about decision making. Refining ones judgment skills. Yes realworld imc is golden too. But the only way to guarantee (maybe, alot of jokers out there) that someone has the decision making skills is to make them have a bunch of time.
Oh and for my own opinion there are alot of FOs now that I think suck more than the 250 hr wonders. I don't personally believe that 1500 hrs will make you better. Just that it provides more oppertunity to grow. Arbitrary hour numbers dont solve stupid. But its a start. If I were king I would have a better breakdown on flying done, for how long, and examiner remarks. Just me though
