What kind of time commitment will be required?

10 years after you graduate UPT...10 years of monthly drill weekends plus an extra 2-4 days at least per month.

What are my chances of going to Iraq?

Iraq specifically..who knows. We will be in and out of the desert for the next 50 years, if that bothers you...don't bother, you are signing up to blow stuff up, and A-10's do a lot of that.

Is there any guarantee of getting a flight spot before I join?

Yes, once the board confirms your flight slot, you will sign on the dotted line the next day.

What pros or cons are there to joining?

I'll only give pro's: Blowing up bad guys, serving your country, career stability, having a backup if you get furloughed from your airline, being considered a "military" guy when you go to get hired at a major, accruing seniority at your Regional during the 2 years you're in OTS/UPT/RTU, your wife gets to shop at the BX and Commissary, veterans benefits up the wazzu, etc...

Any other advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Make sure you have no problem with going to war. ESPECIALLY since you want to fly A-10's. Even Heavy guys should have no problem with being deployed and the occupational hazard. Country first, Career second.
