"It has recently come to the attention of the ASA MEC that SkyWest Airlines has offered retention of longevity for pay and benefits calculation to ASA and XJT pilots who are interested in starting over at SkyWest Airlines as a new hire pilot. This program is documented on page 3021.1 of the SkyWest Airlines Pilot Policy Manual. To gather information about this program, an ASA First Officer contacted the SkyWest Recruiting department. In discussing the options available to an ExpressJet pilot, the SkyWest Pilot recruiter shared that the name of the program for ExpressJet pilots to retain their longevity for pay purposes as the 'Soft Landing Program'. The existence of a program at SkyWest Airlines to encourage pilots to leave ASA to start over at SkyWest is troubling to the ASA MEC. While the intent of this program at SkyWest Airlines has been described by the company as an effort that is not meant to harm the ASA pilot group, the ASA MEC feels that the net effect on the future of ASA is not positive."
