There's nothing illegal about them. It's called "layovers greater than 24 hours."

We have a saying around here, if you didn't have 7 days off between activities, then what did you bother commuting home for??

FDX aims at 7 on 7 off for domestic bid packs and 13 on / 15 off for international bid packs.

However coming from a civilian commuter pilot background, I understand that won't work for Skywest.
I guess at the regional level layovers greater than like 16-18 hours are pretty hard to come by. They happen but not as much as the 12-14 hour layovers
