That said, Republic is a fairly stable company despite the stupid decisions management makes. Flying isn't too bad compared to other "contract airlines" (I don't like using the word regional.....we fly to mainland South America.....nothing regional about it). We have some good Caribbean overnights compared to BFE overnights of companies like TSA, Envoy, Commutair, exc. Pay is substandard for the flying we do but join the club.....everone who isn't at a mainline is being payed substandard. Compared to others pay is decent.
If any of you new guys or other jet guys are reading this, one thing that we really need to band together on is open time.......I know all you new turds want to pad your paycheck and get your rocks off touching the jet but you need to consider something. You aren't making $22.94/hr. like others of us were so you can't really use the money excuse. Right now picking up open time is only payed at 100%. Thats pathetic!!! Standard for picking up flying on a day off is 150%-200% pay. The company has no incentive to meet the standard when guys are picking up open time for regular pay. Use the trip trade board or pay your dues on reserve and wait for your line. Everyone has their own situation but we won't see premium pay for extra flying until guys stop doing it for regular pay.
We don't have flow, but if thats your reason for going to an airline you made a stupid decision in my opinion. In theory you don't need flow, there is flow back and companies with "preferential interviews" have guys failing those left and right......now you went to that airline for nothing.
Movement is steady at Republic and should continue as guys get scooped up by mainline. For FOs: EWR, LGA, PIT were most junior last I checked. MIA, DCA, CMH were more middle of the road and IND, MCI, and ORD were most senior.
In the end when deciding where to go take all these into account. Republic ****es me off almost daily but there is also something to be said for the less looked at things by CFIs moving up like junior manning.
All in all if you are a CFI, your time is coming, enjoy the REAL flying you are doing, you WILL miss it. Flying the jet can be fun but it wears off. When it does, you are left wondering how many EWR-CVG turns you'll do in your career, how much of your life is waisted on ground delays, and you'll be dying to get back in a 172.
Any other Qs about Republic, feel free to PM me.
Safe Flying!
I would agree about the open time, but I believe SKW has the same amount. Not saying it doesn't need to change, just saying what the industry offers. The contract opens up in Oct right? Hopefully that is something that is addressed. I appreciate your honest opinion though.
