I feel like that's exactly what bendo would say. Did he tell you to say that? That's a cheap excuse. He is a professional union buster. He has been waiting for these days to happen. Pick it up or don't but don't use the reason you just have to make yourself feel better about because it's not rational. That kind of thinking is what he's hoping for and it spreads like a virus and erodes all leverage which is his plan.
