Merit based system dude. It's total crap that a 10000 hr pilot and a 250 hr wonder start at an airline at the same pay rate. Most professions allow you to make more money when you change companies. I can't figure out why so many people are so in love with the unions that do more to hold us down than allow ourselves to move forward.
Before anyone starts...yes I have read "flying the line". I would still rather negotiate my own wages thank you.
What kind of merit are we talking about? The one for the guy who kisses ass? Never says no, even when fatigued? Breaks or bends FAR's to get the job done? Not write up the jet at an outstation? Do you grade checkrides? What if your bud is the check airman? No, thanks! While seniority based systems are far from perfect, they keep politics out of the cockpit and that alone increases safety within the operation. So, explain to us the advancement criteria under your merit system.
