At this moment in time, since there's quite a few apps coming through, 4k hours will make you competitive. But with 3k hours and your military service I wouldn't be surprised if you at least got a look. And it really all depends on the pilot supply at any given time. I would've never have gotten hired here had I not applied pre-contract (3500 hrs regional fo, nothing special about me at all).

So, get an intense flying job for a year or two, preferably 121, and start hitting some job fairs just to get some face time with recruiters; so when you are competitive, it's not a question of "why you" it's "when can you start"...
