Huggy, I am going to give you the benefit of a doubt since I know you are a stellar individual, but do you listen to a wailing ELT at full volume? Do you listen to static on guard for 20 minutes? Yeah, I monitor it too until something annoys me and then I turn it off. Or sometimes I forget to switch it over until halfway through the leg. Either way, I don't feel as though I am missing too much vital info with twelve other ways to get ahold of someone flying in the flight levels.
I was not talking about the guard thing when I said pet peeves. I was more talking about the guys griping about the "see ya's" and fish finders which are indeed pet peeves. I sometimes say "oh" instead of zero or thirty nine instead of three niner oh. I am sure it infuriates the heck out of someone.
I think most of the guys worried about professionalism in this industry need to take themselves a little less seriously. If someone is honestly embarrassing themselves or their company in front of paying pax with a company ID or uniform on, I will certainly be the first to quietly take them aside, but otherwise...who cares? You guys are seriously pi55ing in the wind if you think any one of you is going to make a dent in the guard chatter. I don't like the stupid cat noises or guard police crap either, but I don't complain or stress about things I can't change.
Either listen in and enjoy it if that is your thing or turn it off for a while and read the USA Today. You will live a much longer, stress free life.
