I thought overbooking wasn't even the problem for this flight, just that a crew showed at the last minute as must-rides so they had to find the seats to accomodate DH's after the flight had already boarded.
It wasn't, but the media used the term incorrectly, as they always do, so now it is a thing. Just like how experience wasn't a major factor (they were just bad pilots) in the Colgan crash, but since the FO wasn't an old man with white hair, here we are with the 1500 hour rule.
From here on out the media and uninformed public are going to dictate our regs and policies.
