Florida is almost always silent. I agree with the previous post that once you get up in the ATL area, it starts to kick off and once in the northeast corridor, all bets are off, it's continuous. I assume it's *mostly* regional guys just based off of the locations where it is and ISN'T happening. This should be crossposted in the "Regional" forum. I don't see anything wrong with a quick "you're on 121.5" if it's the 3rd mistaken transmission or so to help the other person out, especially if it's a GA guy making traffic calls, but the back and forth play and even the guys that try to lecture on the frequency is definitely getting old.
I'm not sure you get it. If you think the regional guys are the problem (never saw anyone screwing off on guard during my 10 years flying RJs fwiw) then acknowledging them and letting them know you're annoyed plays right into their hands. A guard troll, in his (they're ALWAYS male) natural habitat wants nothing more than to know that "grandpa" up there in his fancy "mainline jet" is a little peeved! When you respond or scold you do nothing but get your blood pressure up and give them a sad little thrill. So I say again: turn the volume down for a bit and ignore. Problem fixes itself.
Final thought: if you
really wanna get meta about it, it could be argued that these threads about guard trolls are just another form of guard trolling...
