The 130 IPs to Afghanistan is a real deal for the guard. My unit can't get any aircraft commanders to upgrade to IP anymore. One of our navigator instructors quit rather than go. Most guys say I will fly anywhere with an American crew, but I'm not going to be the only American on a crew of Afgans.
Can't blame them...with all the green-on-blue incidents. Every bro I have talked to that came back from it had nothing but awful experiences to share. For instance, many of them do actually believe Allah has the airplane...but I digress. The Air Force is also pushing Afghanistan/Pakistan hands on pilots. 1 year to learn Dari/Urdu in language school, 1 year on the ground there, 1 year on staff followed by another year on the ground....do we not have a pilot shortage or something?
