If I were in charge at Boeing, I'd take the 757-300, put fuel-efficient engines on it, scimitar winglets, the fancy Boeing interior, some tweaks on the outside to reduce drag. In the cockpit, I'd update the panel to look like the 777 or 787 and leave the overhead the same. (well, maybe automate the pressurization).
I bet it would almost as good as a new design, but at much less cost.
