I've done PHX-DFW for a long time. Having lots of frequency on AA is great. The loads can get pretty heavy during summer and around the holidays.

If you're going to work, you just make sure to give yourself 2 flights. If you don't make it, go home and enjoy the day off (commuter policy). If you're trying to get home and the loads and jumpseat's are all full, there's a few ways to get creative with a 2 leg commute.

Being a high priority for the jumpseat will help a ton. Most flights are on an airbus, which has 2 jumpseats up front. I can't tell you how many times I've been bailed out by getting the 2nd jumpseat while other airline guys are left at the game.
