Yep. I remember that my dad made captain in 1966. In celebration he traded in our 1960 station wagon for a new Cadillac. The sticker price on the Caddy was about one months captain pay.
We were so glad to have a car with air conditioning.
Funny you should mention the Caddy issue because that's what drove me to search for historical payrates for pilots. My suspicion is that the "Caddy a month" in pilot pay may be exaggerated.
