A newer/younger guy I flew with had a great idea for the bidding system to go along with home/gateway basing:
Virtual Basing.
Everyone's Base would change to their Virtual Base, and everyone would bid lines for the Virtual Base (instead of their Base), and nothing would change for those pilots in base. For everyone else, no more imputed income, and no travelling on days off to/from work.

This is a BRILLIANT solution!

I read somewhere here that DAL is experimenting with Virtual Basing...
