I don't care what Delta's policy is with regards to signing in. Theirs is retarded too. I've never in my career seen a plane late due to a crewmember being late, and in the rare event it happens, the check in policy wouldn't have prevented or mitigated it. One time at Mesa I showed up to the airport, realized my ID was at my house, called crew scheduling, told them I was there but had to run back to my house and to let the CA know I'd be there 10-15 prior to push. They said thanks for the heads up, I showed up, we pushed early. No late on my record, no harm, no foul. No call from the chief pilot, no email, no carpet dance. Mesa, of all places, has this check in and big boy rules down better than JetBlue.
My favorite on reserve, 2 hour call out.
I get to the plane and my phone rings. Captain, yes we show you have not checked in, why not. Um I just talked to you 2 hours ago of course I'm here.
That one made me laugh but I guess it's one rule for everyone, btw we were late anyway so it didn't even matter they were sitting around waiting for me since they sent the other Captain to do something else.
