What is taken out depends on what you submit for withholding.
Some want a lot withheld initially, others the exact amount.
I never saw a benefit to allowing the government to hold extra money of mine at zero interest. Time Value of Money.
Not sure what your point is though. If you get additional income, bonus or not, from Company A, but less or none from Company B, would it not make more sense that Company A pays more?
