I think you meant "74 pilots WOULD want Boeing". Consider for a moment the 744 is filled by mostly North pilots who have 320 and 330 time on their way to the 744. It is far more common for 777 (mostly South) pilots to be wary of the bus. NYC pilots stayed clear of the A330 initially because of a Boeing preference. Most ER pilots had only Boeing/Douglas time and dreaded flying fifi. I could see how they would expect the 744 pilots to stay on Boeing, but I think they will be surprised how many embrace the bus.
*My perception may be skewed since I have flown the 330 and have some 777 bids sprinkled around the 350 bid on my card this time around. The bid is not because of a Boeing preference, and I'll really miss the sidestick and meal if the slot machine wheels come up 777 next week.
