Yes attitude goes a very long way. Easier to work with a CFI who's on the weak side but has good attitude than a cocky dude who thinks his 300 hours of 91 turbine time makes him god's gift to RJs.
But bad attitude is relatively rare. The problem today seems to be more of a too relaxed attitude, folks will follow the rules/SOP for a while until it gets too inconvenient or boring for them, then whip out the phone and start texting while taxiing at ORD, or on short final.
Agree with the above! I would much rather fly with a new CFI fresh off IOE, than a former military guy who thinks he knows everything and has a crap attitude because he has been "stuck" here longer than he wanted.
As to your second comment, agree as well. I have to place the blame on some of our CAs as well. Being "laid back" on SOP isn't helping anyone. The newer guys are like sponges, absorbing everything good or bad.
