the management term 'exceed expectations' isn't automatically synonymous with 'profitable'. it could simply mean the loss leader isn't as much of a loss as expected.
the report says they are having to impose operational restrictions. that means payload optimization in our world....so the aircraft is making the trip only by operating to the right of the sweet spot on the yield(profitability) curve.
fyi. the 77LR flew Mumbai to atl. about 8500mi if I recall. usually full or near full. my longest leg was 18:42. still landed with 20K lbs fob.
