there are hourly flights out of ord to lax as an example, pilots will list and check in to all flights available leaving from ord to lax.
some would even list/check in to other california destinations out of ord: ord - sna, ord - ont.
another example: ord - mco, ord - mia, ord - fll
if you choose to continue, just hope you will not get reported by an agent and potentially lose your travel previledges.

I understand that. But if I am going from Boston to lax why wouldn't I checked in all the available flight just in case I miss the first one? If I make the first flight then it would not matter if I am listed in the others.
