Well do you want to be a professional airline pilot or not? You will need to decide this and when you do then you will do what's necessary to obtain the position.
To answer your question, yes it will help but not as much as complex time in the IFR enviroment. You would be surprised how many newhires struggle with basics like a 12kt crosswind.
