I would bet that a majority of the Captains at a regional just want to do their job and get with a mainline carrier. That being said, it takes some guts to stir up the pot and put a bullseye on yourself. And it does happen, lets not kid ourselves. Happened to me, happened to others I know.
So, do you risk your career over something like this.. I don't know. How often did this aircraft fly this way and there was no 'news story'. It's called rolling the dice.

Then you also have the lifers, who aren't going anywhere.. they will follow what's in their FOM and leave it at that. Follow the MEL, Call Ops, and wait.

At the end of the day, this falls under 'management'. They know that by outsourcing, there will be a certain level of 'lost quality', and they have already factored in that cost.
Thank God the child didn't die.. or that we haven't had someone elderly pass on, due to heat issues in the cabin.
I have gotten on both mainline and express where the cabin was way too hot for boarding/passengers. So there is always enough blame to go around.

Hopefully this is a learning example for everyone involved. Then again, it's a revolving door with regards to Regionals, Captains and Management. This kind of stuff has happened before, and it will happen again.

Agree with most of it but if someone dies on an airplane you are in charge of, especially one with an MEL'd pack in extreme heat, etc, your chances of getting on with a mainline carrier would seem to be diminished- that is going to follow you around. Being a captain sometimes means making the tough call, not necessarily the easiest call. Hiding behind blaming management doesn't cut it.
