Drop means you click "DROP" and the company takes the pairing off your schedule, because they can assign it to a reserve. To drop means the company needs to have enough reserves to cover the minimum reserve staffing, PLUS extra(s) to cover your trip. You can POST your trip so some other pilot can pick it up. If those don't work, you can always call in EMER and just say you're not flying it. Crew Support does not need to know WHY you're calling in EMER. You could be sick, or you have something better going on, and you could not DROP or POST it successfully.
It's best to call in EMER before two hours to report time, so they can assign a reserve to it with a a two-hour callout.
