Be careful. One of the managers of training is Dave Fyfe. He will come into your indoc class and say If you don't get the aircraft/date you want to contact him that he has "the power of the pen" Not true. Not true.
He is old school AMR Corp.
Numerous FO's I've flown with asked him for changes and he either ignored them or said NO. All of the FO's told me that they saw the schedules for training. That he could have made easy changes.
Avoid Dave Fyfe.
Do not mess with FLT STD's they have the most power at AAL. Just do what and when they tell you.
Be careful.
APA tells us that AAL owns training. APA cannot help you.
Tell your squadron mates, you'll be there next year. Do not jeopardize losing even one months seniority.
EX: What if they say Oh, OK contact us when you return from MIL LEAVE, and as luck would have it, all classes filled, so instead of Mid August, you're now looking at Dec or later.
What if?
My experience even after being here since 99 is Don't even ask. You'll get a NO or worse.
Aside from all this, I've been a CA for just over 2 years here and loving it, except for the VNAV on the 737-800.
We will get work rules back in 2020 contract. Try to live in base.
Commuting is difficult and flights are full.
