Commuting to LAS by air wouldn't be too hard, with lots of flights between PHX and LAS. About a 40 min flight. AAY flies IWA-LAS several times a week too. I have driven that trip many times and Its no picnic! And it's more like 5 hours. Commuting PHX-LAX is a nightmare. Lots and lots of competition!

The flying in IWA is pretty good. Some long flights but also some short runs. Good weather most of the year. Reserves don't get used most of the year. Summer gets bad though. This base has little movement since so many people actually live there, so when you finally get it, expect to sit reserve quite a while. An announcement came out a couple of months ago that IWA is going to see growth. Most of the crews are very cool and laid back. It's a good base overall if you must live in Phoenix.
Thanks for the in-depth! Doesn't sound promising, and everything I read for good quality of life requires living in base. Maybe things will change a bit if I ever get the chance to interview.

Cheers!
