I recently stumbled across someone flying THREE DPs as an FO. I called because I was requesting a trip trade. I pointed out that while I was not the morality police, the 3 pairings he'd picked up were all disputed. He advised he'd look into it--wasn't getting the ALPAgrams, and felt bad about it. I figured it was an honest mistake...it can happen.
Well...here it is....2 days later....2 of the 3 are still there. Perhaps he is working to trade off them--I'll give the benefit of the doubt until they are flown.
Point is we got to stay informed, and we got to police each other.
And by the way--this was a regional background/previous union kind of guy, and junior to me. I completely sympathize with the guy trying to make a buck--I really do. But before you fly a DP at least consider maybe doing a standby period instead. You probably won't fly, but you'll make 4:30 or so. If you fly--you'll get 6 hours--and nobody can complain about what you get launched on if you are on a STBY. I'm not asking you to give it ALL up, but could you spare the SIG guys 1:30 of your pay to NOT work against them?
Last point--question for some of your smart guys... Why is FLL/ATL/DH a DP when BOS/IND/MEM isn't? Both work about the same times, have a miserablely short layover at a bad time--but it seems to me for a guy living in the south that pairing would not be the WORST pairing in the bidpack, and it certainly isnt' worse than that horrible BOS/IND thing.
I ain't flyin' either one--at least voluntarily...
