You should read Terminal Man (1972). Scientists were predicting the 'singularity' was imminent back then.
Futurists are worse than politicians. At least politicians get into that line of work because they realize they are wholly unqualified for anything else. Futurists never figure that out.
"Singularity" is a joke amongst anyone who understands technology.
