The S&T Market is pretty much the 580 replacement. It's more spread out, and not multi-story like the 580.
The S&T can be reached by going to the Jiang An Temple subway stop across the freeway to the north of the Hilton (to the left), and buy tickets (there and back) from the machine (there's an english language option) for the Shanghai Science and Technology station, which is 7 stops to the east of the Jiang An stop on Line 2.
When you get off at the S&T stop, the market straddles both side of the station. For a couple of shops a lot of us have gone to, go to the left side of the tracks and look for Dave and Cindy at A1-19 and A1-20 on a corner. Dave deals with a lot of aircrews, speaks good english, and knows we come back often, so his prices are pretty reasonable and he has higher quality goods. Another popular stop is Mark's at B2-01 (similar to Dave's). Good luck and good shopping. Here's a couple of links describing the market:
