If causation doesn't imply correlation, then lets do away with ALL hourly requirements. Because, after all, hours doesn't imply safety.
Sorry, but I disagree, I've been responsible for hiring and the amount of hours is a useful indicator. That along with background experience, ie; what aircraft and company a prospective pilot has.
